Our Goal
     Everyone enjoys freshly made, delicious tasting baked goods. Unfortunately a growing percentage of the population doesn’t have the luxury to eat what they want because of their intolerance to gluten. Our goal is to provide delicious, traditional tasting, gluten-free (GF) baked goods to the gluten intolerant community. What helps to set us apart from other GF providers is that we strive to make our products indistinguishable from baked goods made with wheat flour. Our offerings include breads, muffins, seasoned croutons, brownies, quick breads, cookies, cup cakes, cakes and special occasion decorated cakes. We use only the highest quality, freshest ingredients in our exclusive recipes. Our motto is "it’s gluten-free, not taste free".
My Story
     My interest in opening a GF bakery actually started with an interest in baking in general. All my life, I have enjoyed baking, and always thought about starting a bakery of my own. But the timing was never quite right and the idea remained on the back burner. Over the last 10 years, several things occurred that put me in the position that I am in today.
     First, about seven or eight years ago, I started making custom decorated cakes, up to and including the multi-tiered variety, for family, friends and neighbors. It was an enjoyable hobby and taught me a great deal about the decorating craft. 
     Secondly, a little over four years ago, I started following a diet program for my family (Feingold) that eliminates all  types of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives from the foods that we eat. Following this diet helped me to become aware of just what kinds of things we put into our bodies and how they affect us. 
     Finally, a neighbor (Heidi H.) was diagnosed with Celiac Disease a few years ago and I started trying to come up with ways to make traditional baked goods gluten free for her. I was happy to hear that what I made had a good taste and texture similar to wheat based baked goods. The idea was brought up about starting a bakery for gluten free products. At the same time, MCC offered a couple of entrepreneur classes (under a scholarship program) and I decided to apply - I was accepted! Things seemed to be starting to gel and the timing was right. The opportunity was there and the decision was made - I would finally make my idea a reality and open a bakery! So on June 12th, 2009, Donna Marie's Gluten Free Bakery opened as Rochester's first dedicated GF bakery.
       And that's how our bakery came into being. I hope everyone will enjoy what we have to offer. We will always do our best to make our baked goods as traditional tasting as possible.
